Friends of the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped In 1992, the Philadelphia Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped established the “Friends of LBPH” as an annual dues paying membership organization to help support the library’s activities, facilities and programs. Since 1992, the membership of the Friends of LBPH has grown to more than five hundred individuals. Members of the Friends of LBPH are enthusiastic and tireless advocates for the Philadelphia Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped and have continued to educate the Commonwealth’s legislators about the necessity of providing a library collection in alternative formats for individuals with visual and physical disabilities. The Friends of LBPH purchased the library’s initial selection of descriptive videocassettes and established the Descriptive Video Collection at the Philadelphia Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. With their support the collection continues to grow. They have also raised funds to acquire a study carrel and extra chairs for the library’s conference room, and fund receptions to honor library volunteers and support the graduation ceremonies for participants in the library’s Adult Education Program. Their efforts are truly appreciated and we encourage all who would like to support the library to join the "Friends of LPBH". For more information about the organization or to become a member of “Friends of LBPH” please contact Vickie Collins or Renee Snowten at the Philadelphia Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped by calling 1-800-222-1754 or 1-215-683-3213. |
